Americanism is an unfailing love of Country, loyalty to its institutions and ideas, eagerness to defend it against all enemies, undivided allegiance to the flag and a desire to secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and posterity.


Who Are The Sons?

The Sons of Spanish American War Veterans (SSAWV) is the direct heir of the United Spanish War Veterans, and was organized in the spring of 1927, being founded on the highest of ideals; that of "Honor Thy Father." Since that time the SSAWV had continued to serve as a historical, patriotic, and non-political organization dedicated to preserving the history of the War with Spain, the Philippine Insurrection, and the China Relief Expedition, February 15th, 1898, to July 4th, 1902.

Membership in the Order is open to all male descendants of a veteran of the United States Armed forces who served honorably in the United States Armed forces during the Spanish American War, the Philippine Insurrection, or the China Relief Expedition, from February 15th, 1898, to July 4th, 1902. Membership may be through either the maternal or paternal line, provided, however, that eligibility to membership in this order shall include legally adopted sons of those who are, or were, eligible to membership in the United Spanish War Veterans, provided, further, that sons-in-law of United Spanish War Veterans may be accepted into full membership. The minimum age for full membership in the Order being 12 years.


What Does The SSAWV Do?

The purposes and objects of the Sons of Spanish American War Veterans is to perpetuate the memory of the United Spanish War Veterans and of the men who served in the Spanish-American War, the Philippine Insurrection, and the China Relief Expedition; to promulgate the principles of Freedom, Patriotism, and Humanity; to assist in the proper observance of Memorial Day and other days commemorating the events of the Spanish-American War, the Philippine Insurrection, and the China Relief Expedition; to promote public sentiment and proper respect for all such services among the school children and the general public whenever and wherever possible; to gather and preserve the records of patriotic service performed by the Veterans of the Spanish American War, the Philippine Insurrection, and the China Relief Expedition; to honor their memory and shield from neglect the graves of our heroic dead; to inculcate and instill in our membership a true and proper understanding of American principles and history; and to encourage the principles of universal liberty, equal rights, and full justice to all men; and to assist in promulgating a proper observance of the usages of the flag of the United States of American and a due expression of respect thereto.
